DocuMemory keeps the decisions, fixes, and rules you work out with AI assistants as searchable documentation. Connect it once, and Claude, ChatGPT, and your other AI tools can save to it and look things up in it while you chat. You need a DocuMemory account, which you can create at documemory.dev/signup.
Connect in Claude
This works on claude.ai and in the Claude desktop and mobile apps. Add the connector once on the web, and it then works in the Claude apps on your phone too.
- Open claude.ai on a computer and go to Settings, then Connectors.
- Choose Browse connectors and search for DocuMemory. If it isn't listed, choose Add custom connector instead, name it DocuMemory, and paste this address:
https://www.documemory.dev/api/mcp - Sign in to DocuMemory when asked.
- Approve the connection and choose the workspace Claude may use: your personal one or an organization's.
Connect in ChatGPT
- Open chatgpt.com on a computer and search the app directory for DocuMemory.
- If it isn't listed, plans that include Developer mode can add it by address: go to Settings, then Apps, turn on Developer mode, and create an app with this address and OAuth sign-in:
https://www.documemory.dev/api/mcp - Sign in to DocuMemory when asked.
- Approve the connection and choose the workspace ChatGPT may use.
Claude Code, Cursor, and other tools
Developer tools such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop, and Cursor, plus your own scripts through the REST API, connect with an access token. Sign in and open Settings, then Integrations, for step-by-step setup and a ready-to-copy configuration for each tool.
What to ask
Once DocuMemory is connected, ask in your own words. For example:
- “Search DocuMemory for how we handle login token expiry.”
- “Save this discussion to DocuMemory in my Platform project.”
- “Remember that staging deploys only from the release branch.”
- “Load my Platform project's context before we start.”
- “Add today's fix to the deployment guide in DocuMemory.”
- “Show me the history of that document and restore the previous version.”
DocuMemory saves or changes documents only when you ask. Your AI assistant may offer to save something useful, but it waits for you to agree first.
What each tool does
These are the tools your AI assistant can use. Apps that ask before an AI changes something will ask before using the tools marked “Changes documents”.
| Tool | What it does | Effect |
|---|---|---|
search_docs | Searches your documents by meaning and by keyword. | Read-only |
list_recent_docs | Lists your newest documents, optionally of one type. | Read-only |
read_doc | Opens one document, or an earlier version of it. | Read-only |
load_project_context | Loads every memory in a project at once, so the AI starts with your rules. | Read-only |
list_projects | Lists the projects you can open, with your access level on each. | Read-only |
list_doc_versions | Shows a document's history: who changed it, when, and why. | Read-only |
read_attachment | Opens a file or image attached to a document. | Read-only |
save_chat_as_doc | Turns the part of a discussion you choose into a structured document. | Changes documents |
save_memory | Saves standing facts and rules as a memory other AI tools can reuse. | Changes documents |
create_doc | Saves a document the AI writes for you, exactly as written. | Changes documents |
append_to_doc | Adds to an existing document without changing what is there. | Changes documents |
revise_doc | Rewrites a document. The previous version is kept. | Changes documents |
restore_doc_version | Brings back an earlier version. The replaced version is kept too. | Changes documents |
create_project | Creates a project to group documents. | Changes documents |
delete_project | Deletes a project, and its documents unless you choose to keep them. | Changes documents |
upload_attachment | Attaches a file or image you provide. | Changes documents |
Your data
- A connection reaches only the one workspace you chose when you approved it, with your own permissions there.
- When you save a discussion, your AI assistant sends only the part you asked to keep. DocuMemory keeps the finished document, not the conversation text it was made from.
- Turning a discussion into a document runs on Anthropic's Claude, and search uses OpenAI embeddings. Under their API terms, neither provider trains its models on this content. The Privacy Policy has the details.
- Every connected app is listed under Connected apps in Settings, Integrations, where you can disconnect it. Changing or resetting your password disconnects every app.
Troubleshooting
- The connection fails or never asks you to sign in: check that the address is exactly
https://www.documemory.dev/api/mcp, then remove the connector and add it again. - Your AI says the account can't be used right now: its free uses are spent or its plan is inactive. Check Settings, Plan & billing.
- Your AI says an organization's documents are read-only: searching and reading still work, but saving is paused for that organization. An owner can check its plan in the organization's settings.
- Documents are missing: the connection may be using a different workspace. Disconnect it under Connected apps, connect again, and choose the other workspace.
